Today, Spotify announced the launch of libspotify 9 API for iOS, which allows third party developers to write iOS applications that utilize Spotify’s music streaming service. (via iOS Developers can now integrate Spotify into their apps - TNW Apps)
This can only result in awesome.

I’m not sure why I just found out about this now, but TVShows is a brilliant app.
It’s a free utility that finds torrent files for the latest episodes of your favorite TV shows. It has a long list of presets that included every show I would ever consider torrenting, but you can also add your own custom RSS feeds (the developer wrote a nice post explaining how to do this).
You’ll still need a separate torrent client to actually download the episodes, but this app takes care of the tedious part for you. I don’t watch much TV, but there are usually a few shows I’m interested in at any given time (currently: Louie, Futurama, and Curb Your Enthusiasm) and since I don’t have a DVR (or a TV for that matter), this should come in handy.

iOS apps I actually use
The following apps are ones that I use more than once a month listed in no particular order:
- Light - This is a really simple app that lets you use the iPhone 4’s LED flash as a flashlight. It’s really basic, but it gets the job done and it’s completely free.
- Amazon.com - I use Amazon more than any other online retailer, so it just makes sense to keep their app around. It has a good interface and neat features like barcode scanning and Amazon Remembers.
- AP Mobile - This is probably not the best news app for the iPhone, but I keep it around because it will display breaking news with push notifications. I’ve learned about many developing stories through this app.
- Facebook - Not much to say about this one. If you use Facebook on your computer, then you should probably have their app on your phone.
- Colloquy - If you are still using IRC, then you can’t go wrong with this IRC client for iOS. I like it even more than Colloquy for Mac. Also, I helped test it (my name is in the credits!).
- Dropbox - There are a few files I store on Dropbox that I like to be able to view when I’m away from my computer, and this lets me do just that.
- Alarm Clock Free - I use this app when I’m in a hurry and need a clock to keep track of time. It displays the time and can be set to keep the phone from going to sleep, which is all I need.
- Sirius XM Online - I pay for Sirius Online, and this app lets me listen to it when I’m away from my computer… the app itself isn’t so special.
- Pandora - I use this instead of the Pandora website most of the time.
- Solebon Solitaire - The best solitaire app for the iPhone. It has several different games and the interface is really pretty.
- Muddled - Simple word game for iOS. You get some letters and a bland word list and you have to find all of the words you can spell with the set of letters.
- Angry Birds - There is a reason this game is so popular… it’s really addicting.
- Yelp - I’ve learned about a lot of great restaurants from yelp, and their iPhone app is much easier to use than the website on the iPhone.
- CTDA iRide - Public transit in Upstate New York sucks, but their app is rather handy.
- MassTransit - Boston’s public transit system may be much simpler than NYC’s, but you can still miss your train, so this isn’t a bad tool to keep around.
- Wikipanion - The best Wikipedia app for iOS. It even plays the OGG audio files you find in some articles.
- Google Mobile App - I rarely use this over the built-in Google search bar in Mobile Safari, but I do like using it for features like voice search and Google Goggles.
- Wolfram Alpha - This is another app that works just as well or better than the actual website. Great for basic calculations like unit conversion or more advanced stuff like integral calculus.
- IMDb - Another great reference app. I use this all the time when settling bets.
- Articles - A prettier Wikipedia app, but it doesn’t have all the features that Wikipanion has.
- Netflix - I’ve used this a few times to watch TV shows, great for when you’re really bored.
- Instapaper - I bought this to support Marco, but it really is one of the best iPhone apps around. If you use Instapaper and haven’t checked this out yet, you’re really missing out.
- iBooks - I deal with PDFs very often, so this comes in handy for viewing and storing them.
- Reeder - Great user interface for Google Reader on iOS. Just get this if your want an RSS reader on your iPhone.
- Twitter - There is a reason this is the official Twitter app for iPhone.

Tumblrs apps
This is a page you might not have noticed. It has a bunch of great web, mobile, and desktop apps that you can use with Tumblr. My TextMate bundle is a recent addition!
(btw, if you’re using the bundle and want to know if I update it, which I probably will, you’ll have to use the Google code site until I wrap my head around github)
