On the website for the MCAS (the Massachusetts state exam), you can see some examples of open response questions, the answers students gave, and how many points they received.
The answers that received 0 points are both hilarious and very sad.
This HIGH SCHOOL student, who was taking biology the year they took this test (2008), confused the cell membrane with the nucleus (and I think they might have confused the nucleus with DNA).
