Apologies if this has been covered somewhere already, but I just noticed these “Premium” Tumblr themes for the first time today, and my immediate question is: what stops the people who didn’t pay $19 for the theme from just Viewing Source, then Copying and Pasting the code from the guy who did pay $19 for the theme?
You could say that about any premium theme for any CMS, but at the end of the day it comes down to this: the people who would pay for a Tumblr theme are not knowledgeable enough to make one themselves or not interested in making one. They would have to copy the source, and then recreate the theme using the variables and blocks from the Tumblr theme docs (I’ve done it before when I copied David Karp’s theme, it’s more work than you’d think). So the amount of people who would be willing and able to do that is such a minority that it doesn’t really matter.
