To the liberals who are leering at Massachusetts today for letting Scott Brown win, you need to understand something. Actually, before I get into that, I should note that I do not support Scott Brown. Anyway, here’s why Coakley didn’t win: she thought she could win. I’m pretty sure she thought that because she was a Democrat, she wouldn’t have to make much of an effort to get elected in Mass… I mean, the grass here is practically blue. However, what she didn’t anticipate was that her opponent was a little bit foolish and wasn’t going to accept automatic defeat. So, Brown campaigned, presented himself well, did the grassroots thing, and by the time voters headed to the polls, he had gained a following. Martha Coakley, on the other hand, misspelled Massachusetts (ok, that a cheap shot). My point is, people shouldn’t be upset with how the state voted, they should be disappointed that Coakley didn’t take this election seriously and because she was such a bad candidate, Teddy’s seat has gone to a Republican. It’s sad, but it’s probably not the end of the world… but you can probably forget about significant health care reform for a while…
