I bought a copy of an app called iDefrag because I heard that it would help me make a partition on my HDD (I was receiving an error before about unmovable files). Now, I’m sure this is an excellent app and even though you don’t have to defrag your Mac, it does increase performance to some degree if you do it regularly. That said, good old Disk Utility (the Snow Leopard install disk flavor) turned out to be the true solution to my problems, but Coriolis Systems, the UK based company who makes iDefrag, gave my a full refund when I told them my story. Excellent customer service, though they seemed a little bit upset that I referred to their software as useless in my email (useless for my purposes is what I meant).
I’d buy iDefrag again in a heartbeat if I felt that I had a legitimate use for it. I just feel weird about blowing $30 on an app that I didn’t really need, and apparently they understood.
