Of course, Google decides to release a phone right after I buy a new iPhone…
Anyway, this thing looks pretty cool. The device itself looks like any other HTC phone, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I hate that it has that stupid trackball and those touch buttons. It has a multi-touch screen, there is no need for a trackball. And like Apple, I think buttons suck. You should be able to do all of those actions right on the touch screen.
Engadget has a few shots of Android 2.1 running on the Nexus One. If I had to buy a phone that wasn’t the iPhone, I would get an Android phone. That said, the current software is ugly. It feels like an open source project, and it seems like it wasn’t made for mainstream users. It’s fine for geeks, but most people are going to want more structure. These pictures show some nice improvements, but I think it’s still needs some simplification.
Maybe I just need to see more before I pass judgement.
