I’ve used bengold.tv as my web address for a long time, and it’s always bothered me. The first issue is that people don’t believe .tv is a real TLD. They’ve heard of .com, .net, .org, .edu, and .gov, and they can handle it when you through a common country code TLD at them like .co.jp, .co.uk or .ca, but .tv seems crazy. Who the hell has heard of Tuvalu? They other issue I have with .tv is that I rarely post any original video content on my site. Having .tv seems dishonest and makes about as much sense as Leo Laporte using .tv for the TWiT website… which he does.
Why did I go with .tv in the first place? Believe it or not… everything else was taken. Who knew bengold domain names would be so popular. Bengold.com is some jewelry retailer in Istanbul. I don’t really know what’s going on with bengold.net. Bengold.org belongs to some globetrotter from New York (he seems nice other than the song that autoplays when you visit the site). Bengold.us appears to be free, but nobody uses .us domain names (though it is a possibility). Bengold.info… well that site is actually mine, but I’m using it for something else at the moment.
I just found out I can get bengold.pro, but that just seems silly. Anyone have any suggestions about possible domain changes?
