Not that long ago I bought a refurbished Apple 24” LED Cinema Display. This thing is awesome. It’s one of the best looking displays I’ve ever seen. The contrast is fantastic. And, despite being refurbished, it was in very good condition.
Well, today it died. I’ve never really had any electronic equipment die so abruptly before. Typically there are warning signs, some evidence of decreased performance. No, not in this case. The screen was working fine and then it just shut off. These screens don’t have a power switch, they just go on when you plug in the USB and mini Display Port, but it was like I had unplugged it… except I hadn’t. Actually the strange thing is that the built in magsafe charger still charges my laptop, but the display remains dark and my mac doesn’t recognize the built-in speakers. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the display’s internal power supply.
Not a big deal, it’s just a little bit annoying because it means I’m back to using my MacBook’s tiny 13.3” display. I don’t think I will ever have a computer this size as my main machine ever again (though I have become fascinated with netbooks recently…). Apple covers refurbished products for one year, same as with all new products. So, I just need to drag my monitor to one of 7 Apple Stores near me…
I wonder if I should have bought the Dell…
